Hi,
A while ago I said I was going to write a post about what Acrostic Poems are and how to write one.
Today is the day I finally make that post!
So here it is,
What is a Acrostic Poem
An Acrostic Poem is basically just a poem that, when you take all of the letters at the beginning of the lines they form a word.
Don’t get it?
Here’s an example.
Time
Time is like a river,
Icy cold, yet hot,
Metering out the
Eons.
Did that help?
Good.
Now we are going to learn about the process of actually making one.
Writing a Acrostic Poem
First let’s choose the word that will be running up and down the page.
Let’s see…..hmm…………how about……….Spies!
Perfect.
Spies
S
P
I
E
S
Perfect.
Now, what’s some words that correspond with “Spies?”
Secrets………….Evidence………….Important……….
Good, now let’s put it all together!
I’m now going to change how big I have the letters so the poem doesn’t take up the whole page.
Spies
Secretly creeping away,
Possibly finding
Important
Evidence
Secretly creeping away, spies.
It’s just about perfect, but I’ve got something that will sound better than “Possibly.”
Spies
Secretly creeping away
Perchance finding
Important
Evidence
Secretly creeping away, spies
Perfect, you did it!
I hope you enjoyed this post, hopefully it helped you to understand a great form of poetry!
